The NSA Scholars Program (SP)

Applications for NSA grants should include:

 

• Basic applicant information: Name, contact information, institution and institution accounting information, and information for collaborators.
• A brief Project Overview: Maximum 500 words.
• A complete Project Proposal: This proposal should outline the rationale for the project and should emphasize the innovative and emerging nature of the project, its timeliness, potential risks and the potential importance for respiratory science and medicine if successful. The proposal may be up to 5 pages long.
• Budget: Your submissions should include a proposed budget for each year of the grant with a rationale for each expense. Break the budget into major categories, including applicant salaries and benefits, laboratory equipment and supplies, salaries for technicians, students and fellows, and any institutional overhead charges (up to 15%).
• Applicant CV: A current CV for the primary applicant including meeting presentations, invited lectures, etc. (with no published abstracts included).
• Collaborator CVs: A CV should be submitted for each collaborator, and should include current research funding and a listing of full research publications for the past five years (with no published abstracts included).
• Letter of Support: From the applicant’s university, research institute or hospital department head, or dean, indicating approval of the proposed budget.
• Applicant Training Summary: Maximum of 500 words

 

Also Required:

 

• Two Reference Letters: Two reference letters from former supervisors, co-authors or equivalent are required. At least one letter of reference must be from the applicant's PhD or Postdoctoral supervisor. These letters of reference should be sent by their author, directly to natsanassoc@gmail.com, and should include the applicant's name in the subject line. We must receive these letters by the application deadline.

 

Please note that a detailed review of the literature and detailed research methods and techniques is not required. 

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Eligibility

 

The first 3 years of your first faculty appointment are measured to the deadline date for applications to be received. If extenuating circumstances affect whether you are within that period (for example, parental leave, temporary reassignment, or other circumstances), please describe these circumstances and send the information to Natsanassoc@gmail.com with supporting evidence.

 

Preparing your Application

 

We strongly encourage you to review the requirements outlined on this page and in the application form before beginning. Take time to prepare all required information and files in advance, as you must complete and submit the form in a single session.

 

We also strongly encourage you to prepare and submit your application well before the deadline.

 

Confirming Receipt of Your Application

 

You will receive confirmation of your application in three steps:

 

1. Immediately: The website will display a confirmation message indicating that your application has been successfully submitted.
2. Within ten minutes: You will receive an automated email containing a record of the information submitted, sent to the email address provided in your application.
3. Within 72 hours: You will receive a separate email from the National Sanitarium Association formally confirming receipt of your application.

 

Please note: These confirmations acknowledge receipt of your application only. They do not indicate that your application has been approved or funded.

 

Application Review and Decision Process

 

We will begin reviewing submitted applications after the application deadline. Following an initial review by our Scientific Committee and Board of Directors, applications will proceed through the following stages:

 

1. First Round Review: Applications will receive an initial review and assessment. Selected applications will advance to external review.
2. External Review: Applications advancing from the first round will be sent for external expert review beginning in July.
3. Final Assessment: External expert reviews will be considered by our Scientific Committee and Board of Directors as part of the final assessment process.
4. Funding Decision: The NSA will make final funding decisions and notify all applicants of the outcome in December. Applicants whose submissions proceeded to external review will also receive feedback from external reviewers alongside the results of their application.
5. Funding Begins: Funding for successful applicants will begin shortly after funding decisions are announced.

 

Please note that we cannot provide individual feedback to applicants whose applications are not selected to advance beyond the first round of review.
